Ultimately, the most important things to think about when selecting a lender are what kinds of interest rate they can give you, what fees they’ll charge, how competent they are in meeting their deadlines in your home purchase contract, and how comfortable you are with them. This is definitely not an occasion to simply pick the bank you have a long personal banking relationship with, or the bank who financed your car loan or handles your credit card accounts. Home loans are a completely different process – a lot more is at stake, and you should keep this in mind when choosing a mortgage lender.
Regardless of whom you select as your lender, your real estate agent should hold them accountable regarding the financing deadlines in your home purchase contract, and some lenders are a lot better at keeping their deadlines than others!
