When you consider which Northern Virginia real estate agent to use and you start interviewing candidates, don’t just ask them how long they’ve been in the business – ask them how many transactions they do in a typical year. A lot of people make the mistaken assumption that real estate is just like any other career where time equals seniority and experience, but this just isn’t the case.
Finding a Northern Virginia Real Estate Agent With a Lot of Experience
Did you know that the average real estate agent has six sales per year? Doesn’t that sound like a low number to you? Why is that the case? For one thing, there are a lot of part time real estate agents. I’ve met agents who have been in the business for 15 years, yet they do, on average, a couple deals per year.
Now, don’t misunderstand me - There’s nothing wrong with doing real estate part time, so I'm not knocking agents who don't work full time in this industry. It’s a great way for people to make some extra income and have fun doing it. However, if you’re like most people, buying or selling a home will be one of the most important financial decisions in your life. Would you hire a part time surgeon for an important operation? Of course not – you’d hire a surgeon who was successful and had performed a lot of surgeries.
The fact of the matter is that in real estate, when you first get started you don’t know what you don’t know, unless you start doing a LOT of transactions. Real estate contracts are complicated, with all kinds of clauses and addenda that have the potential, when used in certain ways, to work for or against you during negotiations and on the road to closing. It’s important to hire a Northern Virginia real estate agent who does a lot of deals and writes a lot of contracts, in order to get the maximum protection you deserve.
Are you looking for a “no pressure” Northern Virginia real estate agent who also has a lot of experience? With over 30 sales and over $10 Million in sales volume in the last year alone, I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in the Northern Virginia real estate market.
