Your Home is an Investment - Part 2For those of you just joining us, this is the second post in a two-part blog series on treating your home purchase like an investment. Read part 1 here.

Often, buyers like homes that sit back an average distance from the street and have fairly flat yards. This isn’t to say that if you move forward with purchasing the more unique home, when it comes time to sell, you won’t be able to find another buyer like you who just loves this unique property. However, it could mean that it might end up taking longer to find this kind of specific buyer.

In fact, this situation summarizes my wife’s and my first home in California. We knew we wanted a peaceful, secluded setting, and we found one such home at a great price. Fortunately, we bought in a highly desirable neighborhood that was in great demand. When it came time to sell, the appeal of the neighborhood outweighed the fact that we shared a driveway with our neighbors and our lot consisted mostly of hilly, unusable land. This, combined with competitive pricing and a seller’s market, led to a lot of offers on our home. However, if our home had been in a neighborhood that didn’t have such high demand, these other factors could have made it more difficult to sell our home at a good price.
