Fixing and Flipping Homes Part-2 I split my post on flipping your home into four parts because it was getting too long for just one. Ah, I guess this topic excites me so much that I just have too much to share with my readers! For those of you who are just joining me now, click here to read the first post in this series.

Here’s a summary of the major renovation work we did:

New Hardwood Floors

We ripped up all of the old carpeting, learned how to install hardwood floors, and then laid them throughout our entire 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. Hiring someone to install it would have cost us over $6,000, and it wasn’t that difficult to learn how to do it, so this was well worth it. The biggest drawback was that it was an extremely time intensive process, but we made it more manageable by setting aside blocks of time in advance and targeting one room at a time.

New interior/exterior paint job

Our house needed new paint badly, both inside and out. Painting is one of those tasks that anyone can do – it’s just a pain in the neck and very time intensive. However, all things considered, it’s a fairly expensive task to outsource, so we were fine putting in the time and effort to do this ourselves. We just spent some time at the local Sherman Williams store looking over color schemes for the inside and outside of the house and finally bought all the paint we needed when they had a 25% off sale. We didn’t choose their most expensive options, either. We bought one of their cheaper HGTV options that still had good reviews. We used one coat of primer, and then two coats of the HGTV paint and the result was great!
