A home repair warranty is a great way to protect the investment in your home’s appliances and systems in the event they break down. A home repair warranty is great not only during your first year of home ownership, but it’s also a good idea to renew each year so that you’re always covered. When it comes to your home’s appliances, HVAC system, plumbing and electrical systems, etc., it’s not really a question of IF these things are going to break down, it’s really a question of WHEN.
Home Repair Warranty Question from a Client
I recently got a question from a client about how home repair warranty service calls work. She was wondering if she could call any outside technician to perform a service call on her A/C. With home warranty policies, you have to call the home warranty company directly and file a claim. They submit a work ticket for a technician to come out and evaluate the problem.
So if you want to have your home repair warranty company solve whatever problem you’re experiencing, you have to keep everything “in-house” through them. Basically, you just call the home repair warranty company directly anytime an appliance or system in the home breaks down. If you call an outside repair person on your own, you’ll waste money, since they all charge you their own fees. With home warranty service claims, you pay the trade call fee to the home warranty (usually around $75 or $100), they dispatch a repair person, and then the home warranty company pays for the rest of the repair or replacement of the appliance that has broken down.
