Some people like to build custom homes on vacant lots in Northern Virginia instead of buying a resale home. If you choose to buy land first and then build a new home, there are a few ways you can go about it.
Build Custom Homes – What are Your Options?
One option is to find house plans you like and purchase them (there are a wide variety of sites available online that give you access to quite literally tens of thousands of plans – i.e. www.HousePlans.com). Then, you can take those plans to an architect to make any changes you like.
Alternatively, you could consult with an architect first, telling them what you want, and having them design it from scratch. It is generally more cost effective to start with plans and have them modified by an architect. After your plans are done, you then find a home builder (general contractor), who builds your house from those plans.
It’s important to keep in mind that when you choose to build custom homes, construction costs in Northern Virginia are not cheap. You might very well be able to find a resale property LINK that has a lot of what you want for cheaper.
