A basic property survey in Northern Virginia typically costs around $350. This is what’s known as a location survey, and it’s always important to have one done. The location survey serves two main functions:

- It provides you with an updated plat.

- It ensures that your title insurance covers you completely with regard to any title issues relating to the boundaries of your property that ever come up in the future.

Some people decide to get a survey with stakes, which is when someone comes out and drives stakes into the four corners of your property. This is totally optional, and it usually costs around an extra $200. 

A property line survey is part of your closing costs in Northern Virginia, so you pay for it at settlement.
