Unless a home is new construction, any home inspection will turn up a good number of items (many or which are minor) that need to be addressed. Why? Homes require ongoing maintenance to keep them in tip top condition, and most homeowners don’t keep up on all of these maintenance items over the years.
How well have you maintained your home over the years? If you feel you have diligently addressed maintenance items that have come up over time and you have been organized in your effort to keep your home in great shape, I wouldn’t necessarily advise going to the extra expense of getting a home inspection before selling. However, if your home has a checklist of deferred maintenance items that haven’t been addressed, getting a home inspection before selling is often a great way to remove things these items from the list of things that nervous homebuyers could be concerned about.
