Located alongside the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria, the Torpedo Factory Art Center is home to the largest collection of working artist studios in the United States. With 82 artist studios that center on everything from painting and printmaking to ceramics, sculpting, photography, stained glass, jewelry, and fiber, this Alexandria landmark provides the perfect opportunity to join artists in their studios, ask them questions, and purchase original pieces by local artisans.
Art Culture at The Torpedo Factory Art Center
In addition to the studios, there are seven large galleries filled with exquisite pieces of art to explore. As an added bonus, the Torpedo Factory also houses The Alexandria Archaeology Museum, which includes artifacts from back when the building was a working torpedo factory. Located over three floors, you could easily spend hours taking in everything the Torpedo Factory Art Center has to offer. If you are interested in honing your own artistic talents, you can also take classes at Torpedo. There is no charge to enter the building, but keep in mind that it usually closes at 5pm to set up for evening events.
