Tudor House Historic House and Garden celebrates its bicentennial in 2016. The house was owned by the Peter family who were direct descendants of Martha Washington. It has belonged to this family for six generations and was first opened to the public in 1988 after the death of the last member of the family, who decreed in his will that it should be turned into a museum.

Guided tours are available six days a week at Tudor Place Historic House and Garden, and these are a great way to discover as much as you can about Tudor House as the guides are very knowledgeable. Once the tour is over then you are free to spend as much time as you want exploring the house and gardens. Even if you have visited the house before, there is always something new to discover.
The house by built by Dr. William Thornton and much of the original landscape of the house is still evident today. As soon as you walk through the doors you will step back in time through two hundred years of history. Many possessions that belonged to the Peter family can be seen in the house, and it is easy to imagine them being used at different points throughout history.
Preservation of Tudor Place Historic House and Garden is a key element of the day to day upkeep that goes on, and this helps to ensure that the house is able to keep most of its original features. This means that future generations will be able to appreciate the history of the house, just as we are able to do today.
