Located between DC and Arlington in the Potomac River, Theodore Roosevelt Island Park is an 88 acre island that serves as the only memorial to the 26th president. Visit Roosevelt Island to find a tranquil and beautiful park that offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although much of the island appears to be untouched, it is actually cleverly designed to look this way in honor of the president’s love of unspoiled nature.
Visit Roosevelt Island Trails
Visit Roosevelt Island to find several miles of trails that take you through swampy marshes and wooded uplands that are home to an abundance of wildlife, including deer, birds, ducks, frogs, turtles, and even the occasional (non poisonous) snake. In the midst of the wildlife sanctuary, a 17-foot bronze statue of the president stands, along with four granite slabs engraved with quotes by Roosevelt on manhood, nature, the nation, and youth.
In addition to walking or jogging these trails, you are also invited to canoe or kayak around the island using your own craft when you visit Roosevelt Island. (You can put in near the footbridge leading to the island.) Be aware that bikes are not allowed on the island, but you are invited to bring your dog.
