It’s important to consider typical condo fees as you’re trying to decide between a condo purchase in Northern Virginia and a single family home or townhome purchase.
Typical Condo Fees in Northern Virginia
I sell a lot of condos, and the average condo fees I usually see are anywhere from $250 to $450 per month. A good number of condo communities in this area have fees that are higher than this, but few have fees that are much lower.
What do Condo Fees Cover?
Condominium association fees cover things like the exterior building maintenance, property landscaping, interior common areas maintenance, upkeep of the pool or any other amenities, salary for concierge or security personnel, etc. For buildings that have a lot of expensive amenities or in communities where utilities are included in the fees, condo dues are usually higher than $450.
HOA fees in single family home and townhome communities are usually a lot less than typical condo fees. However, condos prices generally are a lot more affordable than home prices, especially in high demand areas inside the Beltway, like Arlington and Alexandria.
