A visit to The Winery at Bull Run is like taking a step back in time. This scenic vineyard, also a working farm, brings visitors right back to the 1860s. The authentic setting shows how well the land has been preserved since the Civil War era. The Winery at Bull Run offers guests more than just fine wine tasting, it also offers a chance to see living history as they tour the many artifacts and historical buildings that dot the property. Located just a half hour from Washington DC, in beautiful Centreville, VA, The Winery at Bull Run sits on 225 acres of land that encompasses over 5,000 acres of beautiful country land in the historical Manassas National Battlefield Park.
The Winery at Bull Run Wine Tasting
Wine tasting is always the biggest draw to The Winery at Bull Run. The vineyard grows Norton grapes because they are a native American variety. Wine lovers also prefer the taste of wine made with Norton grapes. Guests can enjoy the day tasting various Virginia wines, buying wine to add to their home collections, or buying Virginia wine to give as gifts.
Opened from 11 am until 7 pm Saturdays through Wednesday, and opened until 8 pm on Thursday, and 10 pm on Friday, The Winery at Bull Run has tours scheduled throughout the day. Reservations are required for tasting tours, so be sure to book early. There are costs involved with both tours and tasting, so be sure to check for current prices.
Something for Everyone
Children are welcomed at The Winery at Bull Run. There are special family sections on the property, and 'over 21' areas as well. Children can enter the winery and the tasting room. There are experiences designed to inspire people of all ages. A living history demonstration of wine making as it was done in the 1800s, is one of the best attended events at The Winery at Bull Run. Visitors enjoy seeing the process from start to finish.
The winery sells snacks and other foods that compliment their wine. Families who wish to have picnics can bring food, but must eat in the designated picnic area just outside the park grounds. There are more than one hundred picnic tables available. Grilling is not permitted anywhere on the property.
The area surrounding The Winery at Bull Run is rich with American history. Visitors to the winery often find time to take in more of the history of Virginia as they visit the old Stone Bridge and other areas within the Manasses Battlefield Park. Due to the close proximity of the battlefield, it is not uncommon to see character actors (in full dress) wander over to the winery for a little taste of wine themselves. Children (and adults) delight in seeing authentically dressed men and woman strolling through; this brings to life the whole experience of visiting The Winery at Bull Run.
