The Boxwood Winery lies in Middleburg, VA, just outside of Washington DC. Here in this region is steeped in Civil War and American colonial history, you can find three types of red Bordeaux wine made from five kinds of grapes : Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of which are French government certified.
National Historic Landmark
The Boxwood Winery is a National Historic Landmark, home of the earliest horse farms in the area. Originally settled in the 1700s, the farm gained notoriety as a horse farm as well as the home of a military aviation pioneer General Billy Mitchell. Now it's the home of John Kent Cooke, a former president and owner of the Washington Redskins.
Convinced that Virginia has the ability to create wines that can compete on a worldwide stage, Mr. Cooke set out to prove his assertion. To do so, he employed the services of Lucie Morton, a renowned viticulturist to design the perfect vineyard.
Nowadays, The Boxwood Winery produces approximately 5,000 cases every year, which are available for purchase and sampling in their tasting room. After visiting and have made your selection, spend some time in their courtyard, where you relax and take in sweeping views of the property.
