Outdoor Renovations Continued… Why These Remodeling Choices Are Part of Any Best Home Improvements List

Spruce Up Your Entryway

If your front door leaves something to be desired, give it more curb appeal by staining or painting it, and updating the door handle.

Windows

If your home’s windows are more than 15 years old, replacing them with energy efficient windows will not only keep your family more comfortable, but potential buyers will also appreciate it. That said, if you’re ready to put your home on the market, you will not see a huge return on the thousands of dollars it would cost to replace all your windows, and therefore windows wouldn’t qualify as one of the best home improvements in this type of situation. Focus on how the windows look by replacing any broken window panes or torn screens, and give those windows a good washing.

If hope you’ve enjoyed our blog series on the best home improvements for increasing your Northern Virginia home’s resale value. The main thing to consider every time you decide on a particular home improvement is how much it will add to your own personal enjoyment of the home versus how much money it will put in your pocket when it comes time to sell. For instance, you might love the way a new $6,000 custom vanity looks in your hall bathroom, but if you’re not going to enjoy it for very long before you sell, is this one of the best home improvements you could make? Probably not, given the fact that buyers won’t care if your hallway bath vanity cost $1,500 or $6,000, and they definitely won’t pay $4,500 more for the home just because it has that awesome vanity.
