How did Corcoran Vineyards and Cider begin? Like many others before them, Jim and Lori Corcoran moved to pristine Loudoun County to improve their family’s way of life. With their savings, they were able to purchase over 100 acres and build a farm complete with chickens, goats, sheep, and cows. But, it wasn't long before their entrepreneurial spirit showed them the bounty that could be had in their location, smack dab in the middle of Virginia's famous wine country.
Award-Winning Wine Makers
They began planting grapes, Lori took some wine making classes and Jim transferred his research and development skills to the winery industry. And, like the popular saying goes, the rest was history. Fast forward to the present and Lori is now an award-winning winemaker. Ever humble and thankful for her husband's contribution, she's quick to acknowledge that the wine making process begins in the vineyard, which happens to be Jim's domain.
Their Corcoran Vineyards and Cider boutique faculty produces approximately 3000 cases of wine every year and visitors are welcome to taste them in their rustic 1750s log cabin. If you are relatively new to wine tasting, make sure to visit when they are having one of their sensory classes. Here you will learn how to determine what you smell and taste in their vintages.
They also hold an aroma tasting class during the summertime. In this course, Lori pairs their wines with a variety of herbs to bring out the flavors and layers of the wine. This vineyard is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are new to wines.
