Located on Old Lee Highway in Fairfax, VA, these Civil War memorials bring the bloody American war to life. Historic Blenheim is a well-preserved brick farmhouse built just before the Civil War. Used to house Union soldiers during the war, historic Blenheim is most renowned for the inscriptions on the inner walls. While the soldiers occupied the building, they spent their spare time writing notes, poetry, and letters to their loved ones on the barren walls. Some soldiers spent considerable time drawing detailed pictures. Historic Blenheim is opened for tours (first floor only) once a day - at 1 pm on Tuesdays through Saturdays. Private tours for eight or more people can be arranged, and can be specifically tailored to meet the needs of every age group.
The Civil War Interpretive Center at Historic Blenheim
Located on the same property as historic Blenheim, the Civil War Interpretive Center at Historic Blenheim housese some of the writings from the Blenheim building. Filled with various Civil War displays, the illustrated timeline of all the Civil War events is the highlight of the exhibition gallery. Different Civil War Programs are hosted every month. Visitors may rent out space within the center for private use.
