Home Selling Info: The Five Year Rule
As a general rule, it is important to try to stay in a home for several years, preferably at least five, before deciding to move. If you do not, you are less likely to make a profit on the sale. While this timeline does vary based on location and how much you paid for your home originally, you usually have to be about five years into paying down your mortgage and allowing property values to appreciate before you’ve made enough progress on the principal to avoid taking a hit.
