Ox Hill Battlefield Park commemorates September 1, 1862 where a battle was fought on Ox Hill in northern Virginia. This battle, known as The Battle of Ox Hill by the Confederate side, and The Battle of Chantilly by the Union, was the only major Civil War battle in all of Fairfax County.

Although the battle was fought on roughly 500 acres of woods and farmland, only about 6 acres of that land makes up today's Ox Hill Battlefield Park. Located in Fairfax, Va, this historic property is surrounded by housing developments. Visitors should be aware that parking at the park is very limited. They should plan accordingly and find alternate parking in nearby areas.
Designed as a Cultural Resource Park, the Ox Hill Battlefield Park has a mission to preserve and protect the archaeological and historical places and properties on site. Ox Hill is just one of over 400 parks in the Fairfax County Park Authority.
Visitors can take guided tours, or stroll the park at their leisure. Kiosks scattered around the park offer historical information about that particular spot. Also located within the park are two granite memorials dedicated to two Union officers who were killed during the Ox Hill Battle: Major General Philip Kearny and General Issac Stevens.
Various groups love to perform reenactments of the Civil War within the confines of the park. This is just one way the park ensures the past is never forgotten. Preserving the land for future generations is the best way to keep the past alive.
