They say it's not about the quantity, it's about the quality and, when it comes to Willowcroft Farm Vineyards, I daresay that it's true. This small vineyard has won a number of medals that include, but are not limited to, Best of Fair in the Virginia State Fair Competition and Virginia's Jefferson Cup.
Willowcroft Farm Vineyards History
Situated atop Catoctin Ridge, which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, resides a rustic beauty, housed in an old barn, that produces award-winning wines that will delight your senses.
The owner and official winemaker, Lew Parker, has been making delectable wines for over a quarter of a century.
Lew Parker
His first vines were planted about 35 years ago and he officially started Willowcroft just two years later. Since that time, Mr. Parker has become a fixture in both the national wine industry and the local community. He's even been named the Virginia Wine Industry Person of the Year (back in 2002) and was the recipient of the Gordon Munchie Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Needless to say, if you had to pick your very own winemaker, Mr. Parker would make a fine candidate.
Visitors are greeted with warmth when they come to this local gem. And if you are a history buff, you are in for a real treat - a tour of the facilities which will take you through the rustic barn where the wine making process takes place. This rustic beauty was built before the Civil War? If the walls could talk - am I right?
Furthermore, you can purchase a host of delicious snacks to pair with the wine. The winery also features a picnic area, for those who brought their own food, where you can take in the beautiful view and enjoy your selection.
