Other Attractions for Alexandria Residents

One of the nice things about living in Alexandria, Virginia is the proximity to Washington D.C. When residents of the Port Royal condos have visitors, it is inevitable that these visitors are going to want to visit the capital. Those who work in the city know the best times to visit, and the best times to get there with little traffic hassles. Once in the city there is so much to see. It is best to park the car in one of the many lots available, and walk as much as possible. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants to stop for a breather, before continuing on your sightseeing trip.

More adventurous folks want to do their walking in some of the nearby national parks. While there must be miles of walkable paths throughout Alexandria, residents often want to get out of the city and surround themselves with nature. Fort Hunt Park is one of the most well known parks in the area. Entering this park is like taking a step back in history. Once an old army fort, the batteries that defended the Potomac River during the Spanish American War still remain standing today. Visitors are free to explore around the outside of these batteries, but the buildings are closed to the public because of safety issues.

Families love visiting the park because there is a playground for their children to explore. Picnic areas fill rapidly on nice days, and paths can get crowded with people out for a little exercise in the sun. Nature lovers flock to the park because natural habitats have been created to draw native birds and animals to the area. Fort Hunt Park is perfect: it is close to home, and offers something for everyone in the family.
